We are pleased to invite submissions for a collection of short stories slated for publication by Turning Point Books in 2017!
We are looking to publish an anthology of 20 to 25 short stories by Arab women about what realities they are dealing with in today’s global world, and how these realities have impacted and possibly changed their lives. Women’s voices from the region and in the diaspora have significantly changed in the last ten years, becoming much bolder and more daring. While the world continues to grow bigger but smaller, predictable yet uncertain, inclusive but ostracizing, what place(s) does/can the Arab woman occupy among those extremes?
We are encouraging interested writers to explore previously unprofessed concerns in their lives both on an internal (psychological, personal, emotional) and external (social, political) level in cutting edge ways.
Submissions are open from February 1st until March 15th, 2017. No submissions will be accepted after the deadline.
Genre: We accept stories that are fictional (drawn from your creative imagination) and nonfictional (drawn from personal experience and written in the memoir style).
Length: We’re looking for stories between 4000 and 5000 words at most.
Language: Submissions are welcome in either English or Arabic. Arabic pieces will be translated into English. If you have both versions, please send in both. Previously unpublished writers are encouraged to submit their work; however, we are looking for quality literary writing and writers who have a proper command of evocative language.
Disclaimer: Stories must be original; we don’t accept works previously published (in part or in full) in print or digital form. We do not accept works that defame any political or religious parties and beliefs, nor do we tolerate works that offend universal moral sensibilities.
- Send your story as an attachment, not in the email body, to email@example.com. Accepted file formats include: .doc and .docx. Stories have to be complete and in final form.
- Brief synopsis of the story in the email body.
- Formatting: Times New Roman, 12-point font, single-spaced. Include page numbers and title of the piece.
- A brief bio of yourself (100-200 words) that includes your full name and contact information (telephone number, e-mail address, residence address).
The house reserves the right to terminate the project due to insufficient or unsubstantial submissions. Your stories will be read by a committee of editors at Turning Point and as such, the house reserves the right to reject a submission at any time in the publication process.
