Catharsis

Poetry Collection Call for Submissions

We are pleased to invite submissions for a poetry collection slated for publication by Turning Point Books in 2018!

We are looking to publish an anthology of cathartic poems by young Arab poets that express the frustrations and emotions they are dealing with in today’s world. How do young adults in Lebanon and the Arab world identify and find a sense of belonging? This new generation lives a complex life navigating between the past, present, and future. When striving for a better tomorrow, one has to take into consideration the constraints of yesterday, to attempt to establish oneself in the ever-so-unstable present.

We are encouraging interested poets to explore previously unprofessed concerns in their lives, both on an internal (psychological, personal, emotional) and external (social, cultural) level in cutting edge ways.

With a burgeoning poetry scene harnessed by local collectives, now more than ever is the time to come together and share the experiences of our charged realities.

Submissions are open from March 1st until May1, 2018. No submissions will be accepted after the deadline.

Genre: We accept poetry that is layered, thought-provoking, and awe-inspiring. Avoid standard rhyme schemes; we encourage experimental, yet accessible, styles of poetry. Send up to 3 poems in a single document.

Length: We’re looking for poems that do not exceed 50 lines, and prose that do not exceed 500 words.

Language: Submissions are welcome in either English or Arabic. Previously unpublished poets are encouraged to submit their work; however, we are looking for quality literary writing and writers who have a proper command of evocative language.

Disclaimer: Poems must be original; we don’t accept works previously published (in part or in full) in print or digital form. We do not accept works that defame any political or religious parties and beliefs, nor do we tolerate works that offend universal moral sensibilities. The publishing house reserves the right to edit the piece as we see fit.

Submission guidelines:

Send your poems as an attachment, not in the email body, to editor@tpbooksonline.com. Accepted file formats include: .doc and .docx. Poems have to be complete and in final form.

Formatting: Times New Roman, 12-point font, single-spaced. Include page numbers and title of the piece.

A brief bio of yourself (100-200 words) that includes your full name, age, profession, and contact information (telephone number, e-mail address, residence address).

The house reserves the right to terminate the project due to insufficient or unsubstantial submissions. Your stories will be read by a committee of editors at Turning Point and as such, the house reserves the right to reject a submission at any time in the publication process.
